The design development of my typeface, “Thornster”, was inspired by the forms and intricate patterns of bush thorns. Observing their shapes and structures informed my initial design concept and decided to go for a gothic convention theme. Using FontStruct, I experimented with different ways to construct and organise the letterforms, exploring the software’s modular grid-based system. Through experimentation, I incorporated swirling patterns into the typeface, creating a distinctive style that combines their pattern forms with a decorative typographic aesthetic.
